Now that your move has been scheduled, there are a few key things to know about preparing for move day, pack and load days, and delivery.
Familiarizing yourself with this information will help make your relocation as smooth as possible. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your Move Coordinator. Thank you and happy moving!
Move Day Preparation
Prior to Ace Relocation arriving to pack and load your belongings, there are a few things you may need to do in advance, including:
- Reserve elevator for load day
- Take down permanent fixtures, such as window treatments, shelf systems, etc.
- Disassemble particle board furniture
- Disconnect AV equipment, such as stereos, televisions, and computers
- Empty, unplug, clean, and dry out refrigerators and freezers 24-48 hrs. prior to move day
- Drain water and dry out washing machine
- Remove media from AV components
- Remove ink cartridges from printers and copiers
- Remove items from the attic (pull-down access) and crawl spaces
- Remove mounted flat screens and brackets from walls
- Disassemble exercise equipment, such as elliptical machines, non-folding treadmills, etc.
- Empty all gas/oil from landscape equipment, such as lawn mower, leaf blower, snow blower, etc.
- Not-For-Transport Items—such as laptops, family photos, jewelry, and furniture you are leaving behind—need to be taken off-site or clearly separated from all other items prior to your move date. This is to ensure that Ace Relocation does not accidentally load your Not-For-Transport Items onto the truck.
- High Value Items, such as artwork, antiques, silver, and crystal, need to be itemized on the High Value Inventory and Customer Responsibility Form and be clearly identified to your crew lead when they arrive on your move day. It is mandatory that you complete and send the High Value Inventory and Customer Responsibility form to your Move Coordinator prior to your move.
- On the days of your move, please plan on being at your home the entire time. Do not make any appointments, doctor's appointments, etc., on the days your move is scheduled. Plan on the movers being at your pick-up location all day for each of your scheduled move days. You will not want to make flight arrangements for the day of your move; any unforeseen circumstances could delay your completion time and the flight could be missed.
- Please contact your Move Coordinator to discuss your specific Move Day Preparation
Packing + Loading
- Ace Relocation will pack all your household goods if authorized by your company’s relocation policy. Please do not pre-pack anything, as these items will not be covered in the event of damage. Please be sure to review the Allowable Move Items list to understand what items can and cannot be loaded onto Ace Relocation trucks.
- Prior to loading your household goods, the crew will inventory your items and make condition notations. It is very important that you review the inventory list and notate any exceptions prior to signing the inventory paperwork. Failure to indicate any exceptions will affect any potential liability claims.
- Once everything is loaded, it is your responsibility to perform a final walk-through inspection throughout the house for any missed items. Pay close attention to attics, basements, closets, garages, kitchen cabinets, and sheds. If any items are left behind at the residence, they are your responsibility.
- While performing your inspection for items left behind, please inspect for any property damage that may have occurred during the packing. You must notate any property damage on the movers’ paperwork with both your signature and that of the van operator. These damages must be reported within 24 hours to your Move Coordinator. This will ensure a smooth and quick claims process. Failure to do so will affect your ability to file a successful property damage claim.
Delivery
- The crew will deliver items into your new home and place them in the room identified on each box. It is important to have an idea of where you would like your items placed ahead of time as additional charges may occur if you request items be moved around after placement. These charges may be your responsibility if not authorized by your company’s relocation policy.
- We recommend having two adults present for delivery. Checking off the items as they are brought in, and directing the crew where to place them, is easier with two participating adults.
